Are figures available for the number of people volunteering at county-wide or local levels?

Surveys such as the Community Life Survey tend to provide information at the national and regional level for formal and informal volunteering, and are undertaken annually to track changes over time.

The Place Survey describes rates of formal volunteering by local authority area. It was only carried out once in 2008, but we know that volunteering rates are fairly stable over time. For the local authority breakdown download the spreadsheet at the bottom of the page. The results can be found in worksheet 2, column F.
