Youth volunteering and democratic engagement
18th October, Birkbeck, University of London

This was the first seminar in a series organised by IVR in partnership with the ESRC and Birkbeck, University of London. The series focuses on different aspects of youth volunteering and this first event explored the place that volunteering by young people could – or indeed should – have in developing ideas of democratic engagement and citizenship.
This event marked the launch of IVR’s research partnership with Birkbeck.
The seminar saw presentations by:
- Dr Rachel Brookes, Professor of Education at Brunel University,
The seminar was chaired by Professor John Annette, Professor of Citizenship and Lifelong Learning and Pro Vice Master for Lifelong Learning and Engagement, Birkbeck, University of London.
The next seminar in this series will focus on youth volunteering overseas and will take place on 9th December in London. Further details will be available shortly.
