John Mohan is Director of the Third Sector Research Centre and Professor of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham. He is co-author of Mutualism and Health Care (with Martin Gorsky, 2006), and author of Planning, Markets and Hospitals (Routledge, 2002), as well as of numerous historical and contemporary studies of voluntarism and volunteering. He has substantive research and teaching interests in social policy and human geography and is working on studies of voluntarism (both voluntary organisations and volunteering). Much of John’s previous research has focused on health and health care policy, including organisational changes in health care delivery, the public-private mix for health, and the role of non-profit organisations. Other interests include spatial divisions of welfare; urban and regional policy; history of social policy.
